PPDC is intended to provide for the general public access to patent information that is necessary for industrial property objects’ study and analysis in the process of their creation, legal protection and use. PPDC came into operation in October 1999. Beginning from April 2001 PPDC is a division of "The Ukrainian Center of Innovatics and Patent Information Services" (UkrCIPIS), Branch of the State Enterprise "Ukrainian Industrial Property Institute” ( 26 Lesia Ukrainka Blvd. , Kyiv, 01133).

PPDC is formed in accordance with the State policy aimed at supporting the innovative course of Ukraine’s development. The collection is made up by patent documentation from 65 countries all over the world as well as from 4 international and regional organizations. It is offered on paper and electronic carriers. The bulk of the collection is made up by official bulletins of patent offices, the most of them being in hard copies. Patent specifications of industrially developed countries are presented on CD-ROM & DVD-ROM with 10-20 or more years back file. The total PPDC collection on optical media as of  January 1, 2010 contains more than 15280 discs. PPDC is also supplied with standards, methodical, reference-information and serial publications. Data about the update of PPDC with new publications are presented quarterly in the Ukrainian version of this web site.

The PPDC patent-information services are available to the general public.

Users have an opportunity to order at UkrCIPIS paper copies of any foreign patent documents included in PIB but unavailable in PPDC.
