International Classifications of Industrial Property Subject Matter
The International classifications of industrial property subject matter (hereinafter referred to as the International classifications) are among the essential reference and search tools for patent documentation collections.
Under the corresponding provisions of Decrees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of December 23, 1993, Nos. 3769-3771, particularly on building up the Ukrainian-language reference and search tool, the first translation of the current editions of the International classifications of industrial property subject matter from English into Ukrainian was carried out as well as its scientific and terminological editing as of July 1, 1997.
The International classifications used in the world system of legal protection of intellectual property rights are as a rule revised every five years and amendments and supplements are included in their published updated editions.
In view of these revisions, works on actualization of the Ukrainian-language international classifications are carried out. The following current editions of International classifications have been published in Ukrainian:
This edition in Ukrainian was issued as an appendix to the Official Bulletin “Promyslova Vlasnist” (Industrial Property) on paper carrier (Nos. 9, 10, 12/ 2005 and Nos. 1-3/2006) and came into force as of March 15, 2006 (since the moment of the completion of publication of all sections of the Classification on paper carrier).

" Table of Concordance between the advanced level symbols of the eighth edition of the International Patent Classification used for classifying the national patent documents according to the List approved by the State Department of Intellectual Property, and its core level symbols" in Ukrainian was issued as an appendix to the Official Bulletin “Promyslova Vlasnist” (Industrial Property) ¹ 10/2006 on paper carrier. This edition in Ukrainian was issued as an appendix to the Official Bulletin “Promyslova Vlasnist” (Industrial Property) ¹ 2/2007 on paper carrier".
An electronic version of the ninth edition of the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purpose of Registration of Marks with a search tool was created on CD-ROM.
The Classification came into force as of January 1, 2004, and on the territory of Ukraine - as of April 15, 2004 (since the moment of publishing it as an appendix to the Official Bulletin "Promyslova Vlasnist" (Industrial Property) ¹4/2004 on paper carrier).
